This is an article in the latest Banner. When I first saw the headline, I was a bit irritated. When I started reading the article, I became even more irritated. I thought, this girl needs to get a grip and lighten up a little – it’s just a joke. But then she said something that made me want to stand up, jump around, and shout “Amen, sister!” I like what she has to say – it’s a message that seems to be more and more popular with students around the seminary campus. What shocks me most is that the realization she possesses took me until I was 26 to figure out – she’s only a junior at Calvin College.
There’s a sort of re-Americanization/Canadianization that is taking place in the CRC today. We talk about this a lot in CRC History class. Many of us simply do not understand why it’s so important to maintain our Dutch-ness. It’s not that we don’t appreciate knowing where we came from and who we are, we just don’t want it to become the way in which the rest of North America defines us as a church.
I’ve said enough – I could go on. To read the article – and I highly recommend that you do – click HERE.
