I just got a roll of film developed that I took this past fall. These pictures were experimental as I was learning how to use a Minolta manual focus camera with various lenses and filters. I took these pictures primarily just wandering around downtown Portland, OR. I have a thing for architecture and often find angles, styles, shadows, etc. rather fascinating. Church Door. This is the main entrance to a non-denominational church just a few blocks from Portland State University – still in downtown. I was hoping the red of the door would be a bit brighter to really show the contrast between it and the grey stone walls. But in any case, the contrast I going after is still visible. This church was built in the 1870’s. Not very big and a rather odd design overall. But the door is neat…
Staying Warm. The lumps in front of the gate are two homeless men wrapped up in sleeping bags. This days was quite cold (@ 35-degrees). There was something about these two men lying on the sidewalk on the First Baptist Church steps, gate locked, that made me a little uneasy. Somehow, this just didn’t seem right. So I snapped this picture from across the street.
